“NMOPS J&K Pushes for Return to Old Pension Scheme in Latest Demand Council Meeting”

The National Movement for Old Pension Scheme (NMOPS) J&K Unit has once again voiced its demand for the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) over the New Pension Scheme (NPS). During a meeting conducted in Jammu today, the UT President Mohammad Ashraf led the charge in advocating for the scrapping of the NPS, which was originally implemented in 2003, and reverting back to the OPS.

Shortcomings of the New Pension Scheme

During the meeting, Mohammad Ashraf shed light on the various drawbacks associated with the New Pension Scheme. These include reduced benefits for employees, strict withdrawal limits, taxation upon withdrawal, restrictions on investments, and the absence of guaranteed returns for the individuals. He emphasized that the NPS heavily relies on market investments, putting the financial security of employees and their families at risk.

Lack of Government Response

Vishal Manhas, the UT Senior Vice-President of NMOPS, expressed his concerns about the lack of response from the government despite multiple memorandums and reminders being submitted on the issue. He pointed out that several other States have already done away with the NPS and reinstated the OPS in its place. Manhas urged the Jammu and Kashmir Government to follow suit for the betterment of state employees.
